M’akola and Songhees Nation co-hosted another wonderful Winter Wellness challenge. This year marked our sixth annual Winter Wellness Event.
An Eve of crafts, drumming, poetry, Elders Teachings, songs and dance.
The Lekwungen Traditional Dancers delivered a beautiful performance and opened the evening in a good way.
This event is successful due to the fantastic partnerships with Songhees Nation, First Nations Health Authority, Beecher Bay First Nation, Sooke Family Resource Society, Hulitan Family and Community Services, Food Share Network, ISPARC, FortisBC, Team Sales, PISE, West Shore Parks and Recreation, Brandigenous, and Popeye’s Victoria.
The dinner and activities were attended well, and the evening also featured the Slam Poetry of Songhees Nation’s Shauntelle Charleson. Charleson’s powerful and inspiring performance captivated all in attendance.
We would like to offer a special thank you to all who volunteered, to ensure the success of this event.
A great array of elements to the word Wellness, coming together as community, and caring for our bodies, minds, and spirit.
