M’akola celebrated National Aboriginal Day at our newest project 550 Goldstream Avenue.
We opened the day with the Grand Opening of our building and then transitioned into Langford Aboriginal Day Festival.
Throughout the day we had nearly 600 people come and celebrate with us including representatives from 10 First Nations, elementary and middle schools, our tenants, stakeholders, partners and members of our community.
Our grand opening was celebrated with Chiefs, Councillors, Speakers, Blessers and Elders as well as representatives from BC Housing, CMHC, AHMA and the City of Langford.
We gifted our guests with healthy snacks with an Indigenous flare including, barbecued clams, salmon bannock bites and seaweed popcorn.
Several First Nations drum and dance groups performed though out the day and drew in large crowds. We hosted a large children’s activity area will include an obstacle course, inflatable carnival games and other activities.
Our partnering organizations in this festival included Surrounded By Cedar Child and Family Services, Hulitan Family and Child Services, Island Metis Community Services, Indigenous Perspectives Society, Nil Tu,O Child and Family Services, Sooke Family Resource Society and CRD Aboriginal Initiatives.
