M’akola CEO Kevin Albers presented his experience creating, operating and managing affordable housing at the Union of BC Municipalities annual conference “Stronger Together,” on September 29.
Albers highlighted some successes and great strides he’s seen in projects where developers and municipalities work together to build and provide affordable housing.
“A lot can happen when societies and municipalities work together. Municipalities can be a champion for affordable housing providers answering the housing calls from its residents,” Albers said. “Housing projects gain traction faster with a backing from a municipality. Working together communities gain affordable housing units quicker, helping to meet the housing needs of the community and leverage federal and provincial investments.”
M’akola’s development team assists in Planning and Research, Community Engagement, Project Management.
“The affordable housing developer’s role is to facilitate and form partnerships to increase a project’s viability and chances of success,” Albers said.
Albers presented along side Kishone Roy, CEO, BC Non-profit Housing Association, Michael Flannigan, Vice President of Development Services, BC Housing, Mayor Jonathon Cote, New Westminster, and Tiffany Duzita, BC Director of Development, Community Lang Trust Foundation.
