In Events, M'akola Team, Making a Difference

The Songhees Nation and M’akola co-hosted another wonderful Winter Wellness challenge. This year marked our fifth annual Winter Wellness Event.

An eve of stories, drumming, coming together to share in songs and dance; but just as important of the medicines; laughter!

This event is successful due to the fantastic partnerships with Songhees Nation, First Nations Health Authority, Beecher Bay First Nation, Sooke Family Resource Society, Hulitan Family and Community Services, Food Share Network, ISPARC, FortisBC, Team Sales, PISE, West Shore Parks and Recreation, and Popeye’s Victoria.

The dinner and activity attended well, and special guest speaker Dr. Lisa Gunderson highlighting the importance of Mental Wellness care.

The Lekwungen Traditional Dancers, the Beecher Bay Drummers brought their radiant energy and their powerful songs.

A great array of elements to the word Wellness, coming together as community, and caring for our bodies, minds, and spirit. A special thanks to all who participated.
